To identify what changes the community needs in order to prosper, and to set out the community’s aspirations for how land in and immediately around Stonehaven should be used for this to be a genuinely sustainable settlement with the infrastructure needed for all residents to enjoy an excellent quality of life, including identifying:
new uses for vacant or under-used land
preferred locations for future growth; and
new facilities which the community wishes to see delivered

The community of Stonehaven has been asked what future developments we want in Stonehaven. Through a Local Place Plan, we are asked to MAP WHERE we think these developments should go and also what we want to protect. The aim of this plan is to inform Aberdeenshire Council so that they understand how planned developments match to what the people of Stonehaven want.

This is the opportunity for everyone in Stonehaven to say what they want.
What goes into the plan has to come from everyone in the community.
The Local Place Plan is being coordinated by the Stonehaven District Community Council with assistance from people within the community who have volunteered to assist. However it is the opinions and wishes of the whole community that matter.
Therefore, the SDCC and the volunteers are working hard to enable everyone in the community to give their opinion in the way that suits them best.
We will ask you for your thoughts using a questionnaire.
The questionnaire will be available on-line from early November in case you prefer to complete it that way.
In addition, we will hold open consultations where you can talk face-to-face with the volunteers who will assemble the Local Place Plan from the information that you provide. You will be able to complete the same questionnaire with people on hand to answer your questions.
These volunteers have been involved in developing the Local Place Plan from the start.
The surveys and consultations will take place in 2 stages. The first stage will be in November to December 2023. The purpose of this stage is to gather as much information as possible on how the community really wants Stonehaven to develop. The second stage will take place in early to mid 2024, once we have taken in what you asked for during the first stage. The purpose of the second stage will be to feedback to you what we have understood you wanted. This will give each person a chance to understand what the community as a whole wants.
